(KRON) — In the latest blow for Oakland’s troubled Hegenberger Road business corridor, a hotel that’s operated in the area for more than 50 years plans to close this summer. The Hilton Oakland Airport hotel, which has operated in the area since 1968, will cease operations on or about Aug. 28, KRON4.com has confirmed.
The Port of Oakland, which operates the airport, told KRON4 it had received notice of the hotel’s closing from Park Hotels & Resorts.
“We understand that the hospitality sector continues to be negatively impacted by larger economic trends post pandemic, and as the owner of this site the Port will be seeking the best Port use for this property moving forward,” said the Port in a statement. “The Port will work with the facility operators and the City of Oakland about assistance that can be offered to employees who might be affected by this closure.”
The Port did not provide any stated reason behind the closing. However, several businesses in the area, including In-N-Out, have closed in recent months, with many citing high crime and public safety concerns.
